Recognizing the need for and value of disaster education and the benefits of interstate collaboration in disaster, this agreement renews and strengthens our commitment as a member institution of the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN).
As Director or Adminstrator of my institution, I agree to:
Identify a leading professional interested in disaster education issues to reporesent the institution in EDEN as the Points of Contact (POCs). POCs are the primary conduits of information in the EDEN network. POCs are responsible for communicating information and issues of interest to colleagues within their institutions and serve as the voting delegate for the institution on official EDEN business. POCs are the conduit for appointing delegates for an institution;
Support delegate(s) in sharing experience, knowledge, best practices, and resources in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery education. Each member institution may have as many delegates as desired representing different program areas. Delegates are encouraged to serve as committee members and perform other organizationally related functions in EDEN; and identify a leading Extension professional interested in disaster education issues to represent the institution in
Encourage collaboration and cooperation in disaster education programming across state lines and between institutions.
The specific level of participation of each delegate and institution is to be determined locally. However, the greatest benefit from any collaborative effort is achieved by full active participation.
Provide travel support for delegate(s) to attend the national EDEN annual meeting;
Encourage staff to pursue partnerships with their state Emergency Management Agency and other agencies andOrganizations active in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery;
Encourage all staff to participate in available disaster related training;
Encourage educators/agents and specialists to contribute their expertise to disaster education; and
Recognize disaster education accomplishments in performance evaluation and promotion and tenure processes.
