EDEN Accessible Resource Submission Policy
The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) is committed to ensuring that digital resources shared through the EDEN website are accessible to all users, including individuals who use assistive technologies.
To comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, all resources submitted for inclusion on the EDEN Resource Dashboard must meet accessibility standards before submission.
Accessibility Requirements for Submitted Documents
All submitted resources must be accessible to users relying on assistive technologies. Depending on submission type, this includes:
- Text that is selectable and not embedded solely as images
- Properly structured headings and lists
- Tagged document structure
- Alternative text for images, charts, and graphics
- Tables with defined header rows
- Logical reading order
- Descriptive hyperlink text
Submission Options
- Preferred: Word Document for Web Conversion
Submitters are encouraged to provide resources as Word documents (.docx). This allows EDEN to convert the content into an accessible HTML webpage for publication. Submitters should ensure that Word documents:
- Use heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.) for section structure
- Use proper lists and tables formatting
- Include images, charts, or tables with captions or alternative text where possible
- Accessible PDF
If submitting a PDF, the document must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards. Submitters must provide documentation verifying accessibility, such as:
- A report or screenshot from Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Check
- Results from Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint accessibility checker
- Verification from an institutional accessibility review
- Link to an Accessible Resource
Submitters may provide a link to a resource hosted on another accessible website. To qualify, the resource must already be fully accessible to users with disabilities. Submitters must provide documentation verifying accessibility, such as:
Submissions without verification will not be published.
Submitter Responsibility
By submitting a resource, contributors certify that:
- The resource complies with WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards (or is hosted on an accessible site)
- Any accessibility documentation provided is accurate
EDEN reserves the right to remove resources that are later found to be non-compliant.
